Today we packed up and left Raglan. On our way out of town we went into Bridal Veil falls. This is a single fall, 55 m high, but is very pretty (see photo), especially the way it falls out from the rock. The walk in through the forest is also cool. Then we drove 1 1/2 hours through lovely rolling hill country, largely agricultural, with sheep, cattle, corn, etc. This got us to Waitomo Caves. These are large caves in the underlying limestone. We went to two caves. Our first was Ruakuri cave, which has marvelous stalactites and stalagmites - my favourites are the curtain stalactites (see photo). 
This was a 1 1/2 hour walk down through the cave, and then back up to the top again. Then we went to the Glowworm cave, which was a 45 minute tour. We walked down stairs into the cave, where the formations were not as beautiful as the other cave, but the glowworms (actually maggots, but glowing maggots doesn't have the same cachet) were lovely. We drifted down the river through the cave in total silence with the glowworms above us, then excited to the out of doors via boat (see photo).

We carried on to Cambridge where we are staying for the night. This is a town in horse country, known for training horses. But we are ignoring the horses and just sleeping here!
